Seven Months: All sorts of stuff!

Hello! Delicious is seven months old today!!! He is literally a bouncing baby boy--loves to bounce! He also has two bottom teeth; likes to suck on his toes, hold his own bottle (grabbing it as if to say, "gimme that!" is hilarious), and continues to roll over--now both front-to-back and vice versa (which makes me slightly concerned about him sleeping and rolling over onto his face, but he seems to manage breathing just fine). It's something new every day.

It's a little late, but he's finally also sitting! Sidenote: I was really considering the Bumbo chair, but ended up just getting one of those Exersaucer "stationary walkers," which serves the purpose of both getting him upright (and off his back--don't want him to have a flat head) and as a place to feed him (the damn Ikea high chair broke the first week we had it).

We started him on rice cereal two months ago, in the bottle, but it was making him constipated. Then two weeks ago, we started giving him oatmeal cereal from a spoon. It was so funny to watch him try to make sense of the texture!

They say to wait as close to six months as possible before starting solids, so you can monitor allergies. We switched to the oatmeal at the advice of the pediatrician. It's apparently less binding. We also tried out some organic mashed peas from the fantastic Sprout line. But he immediately showed an allergic reaction with watering eyes and inflamed cheeks and lips. Even his nose, where the peas rubbed off was red. Poor guy! So it might be a legume (e.g. peanuts, lentils, etc.) allergy. Sigh. I don't think it's the processing or the brand. It's most likely the ingredient. I think we'll try the roasted squash this weekend. Starting babies off with vegetables rather than fruit is key, as you don't want to get them accustomed to sweetness first and rejecting everything else!

This month has been so fun and his personality is really coming through!

Okay, and I'm being seriously serious right now: Your son is SO adorable, I have to clench my teeth to hold in a squeal! I can't believe he's ALREADY 7 months old. ALREADY!

I'm in looove with that 2nd shot - good job mama! And Delicious has the most beautiful, brightest eyes... he is gonna break many many hearts. :)

Noelle is starting to teethe too - I feel jagged ridges in her lower gums and she's turning 6 months in a couple days but still can't sit up unassisted. The bumbo has been helpful (esp with me introducing her to solids), but she's always trying to squirm out of the darn thing... that girl!

Hi P! I always look forward to your updates!! :) Isn't this the best stage so far?? I'm really loving all the developmental changes. Baby S is super chunky...love it.

Just in case you ever decide to look for a high chair, we love our Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster chair. It's adjustable, wipes clean, small (it attaches to any chair) and portable.
